Can I get insulation free?
Many Teesside homes can: ECO4 for qualifying-benefit households, LA Flex for low-income homes with EPC D to G. The survey checks both routes in minutes.
I'm not on benefits. Any options?
LA Flex exists precisely for you: low income (typically under £31,000) or cold-aggravated health conditions, via your council's declaration.

Technical truths
Does cavity wall insulation cause damp?
In suitable walls, no: bonded bead, boroscoped cavity, exposure checked. In unsuitable walls (driving-rain coast, blocked cavities, failed pointing), yes, which is why the survey comes first and some walls get told no.
Is spray foam in my loft really a problem?
For mortgages, often yes: most high-street lenders refuse foamed roofs. Removal with a timber condition report (£2,000 to £4,000) is the documented fix.
How much loft insulation should I have?
270mm of mineral wool is the current standard. Most Teesside homes have 100mm or less, and top-ups cost £250 to £450.
Will insulating make my house too airtight?
Fabric insulation doesn't seal a house: ventilation is assessed and preserved in every job (eaves vents, sub-floor vents, extraction). Airtightness without ventilation is how condensation starts, and we don't do it.
